Escambia Co. wins border rivalry 68-35

ECHS Blue Devil Dalvin Craft fights through defenders during the Blue Devils’ victory over the Northview Chiefs Thursday at Escambia County High School.

Escambia County ran to a 29-point first half lead and never looked back as they crushed the Northview Chiefs    68-35 Thursday night in Atmore.

The No. 9 Blue Devils (17-4, 3-0) dominated the match up for four quarters never giving the overmatched Chiefs any kind of momentum in the game.

In the first quarter, the Blue Devils used their press defense to swarm the Chiefs causing several turnovers that allowed ECHS to pull out to a 23-10 lead.

Escambia County continued their dominating performance in the second quarter as they extended their lead and held the Chiefs to five points in the period. At halftime, ECHS led 44-15.

Following halftime, the Blue Devils did away with their press and dropped into a zone defense, but still kept Northview in check on the scoreboard.

The Blue Devils slowed the pressure of their ofefnse and defense in the third quarter, but still made the most of their chances outscoring the Chiefs 11-10.

Leading 55-25 at the beginning of the fourth quarter, ECHS finished the way they started with the lead as they outshined Northview on the scoreboard 13-10 to come away with the 68-35 win.

Escambia County received scoring from almost every member of their roster, but the Blue Devils were led in the game by Fred Knight’s 10 points.

Nashawn Hartley added nine points in the win, while Darious Pettway recorded eight and Tony McAroy and Carl Staples each scored seven.

Desmond Williams and Tyrell Ford chipped in six points apiece for the Blue Devils with Desmond Johnson scoring five and D’Andreas Johnson posting four points.

Dalvin Craft, Walt Franklin and Corterious Ford each scored two points in the win.

The Blue Devils next game will be Tuesday on the road at Northview. Games begin at 4:30 p.m.

The Escambia Blue Devils junior varsity picked up its ninth win of the season beating the Northview Chiefs 52-22 on Thursday at ECHS
the Blue Devils (9-4) earned the win behind the 11 points of Joseph Ferrell, and had control of the game from the start.

In the first quarter, ECHS jumped out to a quick lead outscoring the Chiefs 11-4 in the period.

Escambia County ran with the momentum in the second quarter as they extended the lead over Northview going on a 13-4 run in the period. At the half, ECHS led 24-8.

Following halftime, Escambia County picked up where they left off in the first half running away with the victory.

In the third quarter, ECHS dominated both ends of the court to mount a 46-15 lead on the visiting Chiefs.

Escambia County put the finishing touches on their win in the final quarter as they scored six points, while the Chiefs scored seven to give ECHS a 52-22 win.

Along with Ferrell’s 11 points, Blue Devils Jarvis Knight and Devontae Walker scored eight points each in the win.

Darius McCarthy added seven points, while Malik McMillian scored six and Jerome Webster recorded four points.

Garrett Jackson, Kevin Osuala, D’Andre Lambert and TyAnthony McNeal all scored two points.

The Blue Devils next game will be Tuesday on the road at Northview. Games begin at 4:30 p.m.
