Hampton to open soon, new businesses coming?

The new Hampton Inn at Rivercane should be open for business in mid-to-late February. That was the news from the Industrial Development Board during their regular meeting Wednesday afternoon.
What else could be in the works at Rivercane was also on Wednesday’s agenda, and although there are plenty of prospects, there is no slam-dunk for a new addition to the development property.
Rivercane Project Manager Joe Webb said it is possible a new fast food chain may close on a deal with the city within the next few weeks, but added the agreement is not set in stone.
Atmore Mayor Howard Shell said he believes the IDB is working diligently to add new businesses to the Rivercane property and is proud of the progress to date.
“I’m extremely pleased with what they’ve been able to generate,” Shell said.
The City of Atmore has executed a co-listing with the firms of Herrington Realty in Mobile and John Stanley and Associates in Montgomery to market the Rivercane property.
Herrington associate Tim Herrington said although progress at Rivercane may seem to be moving slowly he believes the property is developing well, especially given the recent economy. Herrington said things now seem to be leveling out.
“I would say it’s turned the corner,” Herrington said. “Its gotten to a steady mode.”
