Former Poarch Band of Creek Indians Chief Houston Lee McGhee was laid to rest Saturday afternoon at New Home Cemetery in Poarch.
McGhee passed away at age 74 Tuesday night at his home. He was buried Saturday in traditional Creek style in a coffin made by fellow tribal member Billy Bailey and was led to his final resting place by tribesmen donning traditional Creek clothing.
Prior to internment, services were held for McGhee at Atmore Memorial Chapel.
PCI tribal member Robert Thrower presided over McGhee’s graveside ceremony.
