Escambia County held off a three-run seventh inning by the Monroe County Lady Tigers Monday night to improve to 8-0 on the season with a 10-7 victory at Tom Byrne Park.

The Lady Blue Devils (8-0, 1-0) held control of the game from its outset taking an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.

Lead off batter Tristen Boothe (2-for-4, 3R) got things going with a single, which was followed by singles from Ychelle Walker (2-for-3, 2R) and Jasmine Ireland (4-for-4, R).

Ireland’s single knocked in Boothe and Walker giving ECHS a 2-0 lead. Kaylee Cox (1-for-3, R) scored Atmore’s third run of the inning following an error during Y-netta Craft’s turn at the plate.

After another scoreless at-bat by the Lady Tigers, ECHS put one run on the scoreboard with Boothe reaching on a single and scoring on passed ball by the catch to put the Lady Devils out to a 4-0 lead.

The Lady Tigers responded in the top of the third to pull within three runs with a Lady Tiger reaching base on a single and scoring on a base hit by the team’s lead off batter.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Lady Blue Devils got back on the scoreboard courtesy of Boothe. The Lady Devils’ lead off hitter ripped a single to reached base and eventually scored off of an RBI-single by Ireland to put ECHS out to a 5-1 lead.

Monroe County jumped back into the game with three runs in the top of the sixth inning to pull within one run, but the Lady Blue Devils pulled back out to a six-run advantage in the bottom of the inning, as Walker, Ireland, Taylor Hill (1-for-4, R), Sierra Smith (1-for-3, R) and Carmesha Crenshaw (2-for-4, ) all crossed the plate giving Atmore a 10-4 lead moving to the final inning.

Monroe County did its best to ruin the Lady Devils lead in the top of the seventh, but could only manage three runs with their first three batters making it around the basepath to put the final score at 10-7.

The Lady Blue Devils next game will be Thursday on the road against the Hillcrest Lady Jaguars. Games begin at 4:30 p.m. with the junior varsity. The varsity squad will play at 5:30 p.m.
