Attempted drug buy nets two arrests

Friday afternoon, after busting a local man with a variety of narcotics, agent Scott Walden with the 21st Judicial Drug Task Force said both his division and the Atmore Police Department would be cracking down in the coming weeks on drug activity in Atmore. Saturday night Walden reinforced that statement with the agency’s 18th and 19th drug arrests of 2012, confiscating cash and a half-pound of marijuana in the process.

“We received a call from an anonymous source around 5:30 p.m. stating that two men would be arriving at a specific location in order to purchase marijuana,” Walden said. “Myself and (APD) officer (Isaac) Lopez arrived and removed the dope from the vehicle where the money would have been left.”

Walden said shortly after arriving on the scene he received a second call stating that the buyers were passing Wind Creek Casino and Hotel and would arrive within minutes.

Walden said two males from Evergreen were removed from a silver vehicle and taken into custody. Arrested were Corwin Hines, 23, and Qudrae Riley, 22.

Walden said both men denied any knowledge of a drug buy, but added Riley was found with $666 in cash on his person – an amount very close to the expected price of the drug purchase.

Both men were charged with attempting to commit a controlled substance crime and transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
