Atmore’s Relay for Life is just over a month away, and with the big event quickly approaching, various efforts have already raised more than half of the set goal of $60,000.
Teams from several businesses and organizations around Atmore have come together to help raise money for the American Cancer Society.
Money has been brought into the campaign through ways through the teams including a large amount from the Poarch Band of Creek Indians gaming facility, said Katelyn Ellis, a community representative for the American Cancer Society.
“Fundraising has been going well,” she said. “We have currently raised over $30,000 in sponsorship, team money, and also with help from Wind Creek Casino and Hotel, who held their second annual ‘Think Pink’ campaign in October, which raised $17,760.”
Other teams have also held fundraisers that have raised large amounts of money.
Atmore Community Hospital held its annual sale of homemade merchandise that put its team with more than $3,000 donated, and more teams are in the process of holding their team specific fundraisers, Ellis said.
“We have had donations from each of our teams,” she said. “Atmore Community Hospital has already given over $3,000 from selling scarves and other handmade items. United Bank and PCI have also given money, but we have other amazing teams that have fundraisers coming up soon.”
One fundraiser that is currently ongoing is a Spring Raffle being held by the team at Gulf Winds Federal Credit Union. Tickets for the raffle are one for $5 and three for $10 with the drawing to be held Tuesday, April 17. Prizes that go to the winning ticket include a Yetti Cooler $50 Visa gift card, two sling chairs, two large beach towels, three value packs of sunscreen, three 12-pack sodas. The prize is valued at more than $500.
The money raised to this point in the fundraiser has put Atmore’s Relay for Life past its halfway mark with everything concluding with Relay for Life being held at 6 p.m. on Friday, April 27, at Tom Byrne Park.
