Gladys Drew Criswell Solomon

Gladys Drew Criswell Solomon died Tuesday, April 3, 2012, at her home in Bay Minette. She was surrounded by her family. Mrs. Solomon was born July 23, 1920 in Lottie. She was ninety-one years old.

Mrs. Solomon is lovingly remembered as a kind and gentle mother, “Maw Maw,” sister, aunt and friend. She spent many years working at Goodwill Manufacturing and later retired after enjoying many years of productive work at Brooks IGA in Atmore. Mrs. Solomon’s life demonstrated a love of God and family, a generous spirit, and a strong work ethic.

Mrs. Solomon was preceded in death by: parents, Dewitt and Alvenia Green Drew; husband, John Raymond Criswell; son, John Raymond Criswell, Jr.; daughter, Peggy C. Jefferies; brothers, Charles Drew, Carl Drew, Gene Drew and Julian Drew; sister Elizabeth D. Weaver. She was also preceded in death by her husband Mavis L. Solomon.

Mrs. Solomon is survived by: three sisters, Ruby Drew James, Georgia Drew Brooks, Ann Drew Sanders; one daughter, Patsy C. Lamb; husband, Phillip;  three sons, Ronald G. Criswell and wife Marjorie, Donald W. Criswell and wife Sandy, Kerry L. Solomon and wife Marilyn; one son-in-law, Joseph L. Jefferies; nine grandchildren, Tammy J. Presley, Sandra J. Salter, Phyllis L. Langham, Pamela L. Hartner, Perry T. Lamb, Paul B. Lamb, Rodney G. Criswell, Rebecca C. Jones, John J. Criswell; nineteen great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be Saturday, April 7, 2012, at 2 p.m. from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Chip Starnes officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Perry Lamb, Rodney Criswell, Jerry Jones, Chuck Presley, John Salter and Aaron Langham.

Family received friends Friday, April 6, 2012, at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m.

The family wishes to thank Mrs. Solomon’s loving caretaker, Tempy Phillips, as well as Community Hospice for their care and compassion.
