Escambia Academy’s Jaylen Henry outruns his competition in the 100m run at the AISA state meet in Selma Thursday.
The boys and girls varsity track team for the Escambia Academy Cougars earned state championships Thursday afternoon in Selma.
The Cougars’ boys track team earned a first-place finish in AISA Class 2A and finished third overall in the 1A-3A event, while the girls finished in a tie for first with Sparta Academy to earn a Class 2A championship.
The girls earned their tie in the final event, as they entered the event down one point to Sparta. Their team placed sixth in the relay giving them one point, while Sparta failed to earn any creating the tie.
The performance was something to smile about, EA Head Track Coach David Walker said.
“They did a tremendous job,” he said. “Our girls and boys teams both performed excellent at the meet, and I couldn’t be prouder.”
