Cougars drop doubleheader

Escambia Academy Cougar Braxton Chastang attempts to lay down a bunt in the Cougars’ match up against Lakeside on Thursday in Canoe.

In a playoff doubleheader, the Escambia Academy Cougars had their season ended, as the Lakeside Chiefs defeated them 4-1 in the second game and 6-4 in the first game.

The Cougars out hit the Chiefs in both games registering five hits in the final game, while recording 10 in the first game, but could not get runners across the plate when they were needed.

As the visitors in the second game, the Cougars jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the third with Chance Jackson (2-for-3, R) being knocked in by Braxton Chastang (1-for-3, RBI).

The lead was on there for a short period of time with the Chiefs getting on the board in the bottom of the inning with four runs to go ahead by the final 4-1.

Escambia Academy failed to hold the lead in the first game of the series with Lakeside jumping out to a 3-0 lead before the Cougars put a run on the board in the bottom of the fourth.

The Chiefs extended their lead to 5-1 in the top of the sixth, but the Cougars looked like they might rally a comeback, as they cut the score to 5-4 moving to the final inning.

In that inning, Lakeside added one more run to go up 6-4 and put the game away in the Cougars’ final at-bat.
