Allegations of sexual misconduct with a student originally made in January landed former Escambia County Middle School teacher Robert Clyde Smith, 56, behind bars this month.

Smith was taken into custody May 10 after being indicted by a grand jury. He was booked into the Escambia County Detention Center on a felony charge of enticing a child for immoral purposes and a misdemeanor charge for having sexual contact with a student under the age of 19 according to officials with the Escambia County Sheriff’s Department.

Smith, who was serving as a technical program teacher at ECMS at the time the allegations were made, is facing charges of inappropriate behavior with a 13-year-old student. Smith is reported to have rubbed the child’s back, near her buttocks, inner thigh and “front private” areas.
