A Century, Fla., man remained behind bars Friday after Escambia County Fla., deputies arrested him on child cruelty charges.
Marvin Anthony Haynie, 48, of 3090 York Road in Century, was being held on a $2,000 bond on a charge of cruelty toward a child/abuse with great harm stemming from a Wednesday incident, arrest records show. The charge is a third-degree felony offense.
According to information obtained from Escambia County Sheriff’s officials, Haynie was the subject of a domestic disturbance in the early afternoon hours Wednesday.
Officer Michael Ray Coburn, who made the arrest in the case, said witnesses at the residence where the incident occurred said Haynie was responsible for babysitting a child at the home.
Coburn said in a written report that the victim approached Haynie to discuss his lack of attention to the minor subject. When the victim began to question the suspect, an altercation began between the two.
Haynie fled into a wooded area before officers arrived.
“A perimeter was established and Century Correctional Institution K9s and Escambia County Road Prison K9s were requested and ducted a track of Haynie,” Coburn’s report stated. “Haynie was not located. The track was canceled. A short time later, another deputy advised that an individual in the area advised him that Haynie had returned from the woods to (an area) located directly behind the residence. Haynie was on the front porch and was taken into custody.”
Haynie will appear in circuit court Aug. 16 to face the charges against him.
