Members of the Atmore Kappa League hosted a murder myster-themed dinner at Escambia County High School.

The Atmore Kappa League found a unique way to raise funds for this year’s program.

Escambia County High School Principal and Kappa League Director Zickeyous Byrd said the idea to host a murder mystery-themed dinner came from the kids, who he were just tired of traditional fundraisers. Byrd said the event was a raging success, drawing a big crowd to ECHS Saturday night, Aug, 11.

“The community came out in large numbers to support Atmore Kappa League’s first ever Murder Mystery Dinner,” Byrd said. “Members of the Atmore Kappa League and Expose’ Pearls of Ivy hosted a murder mystery interactive play.”

Byrd said the event drew some prestigious guests.

“The president of Alabama Southern Community College, Dr. Reginald Sykes, University of South Alabama’s Multi-Cultural Student Affairs’ Director, Dr. Carl Cunningham, and the Mobile Kappa League were among some of those in attendance,” Byrd said.

Byrd said the play came of wonderfully, as the audience tried to guess the production’s guilty party, while being served a four-course meal.

“We brought in a caterer and we let them see scene one and then served salad,” Byrd said. “Then they saw scene two and had their entree and then scene three and desert, followed by the finale and some snacks. It was just a great time for everyone.”
