An Atmore man and his stepson are behind bars in Brewton today after officers with Atmore Police Department responded to a missing juvenile call at a North Main Mobile Home Park.
Officers Van Hughes and Jamey Hattaway said the mother of the “runaway” juvenile told officers her child was in a mobile home located on lot 26. Hughes said when the officers knocked on the door, two men answered.
“They said the juvenile had been there but had left,” Hughes said. “They told us we were free to look around, so went in and I checked one bedroom and Jamey checked the other.”
While searching a front bedroom, Hattaway said he located two plastic containers in the closet. The first container held two small marijuana plants, while the second container held a third plant.
Chalton Hurt, 50, and Kadeem Williams, 22, were taken into custody and transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton. Both men were charged with felony manufacturing of a controlled substance in the second degree.
The juvenile was later found at another location.
