Revelers looking for a party on Monday night won’t have to travel far.
Wind Creek Casino will once again host a New Year’s Eve party at the center bar. The festivities, which will begin at 9 p.m. will include party favors and a champagne toast at midnight.
The casino will also host a senior party on New Year’s Eve. The party includes a free lunch buffet from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and celebrity look-a-likes including Charlie Chaplin, Mae West and Laurel and Hardy.
In addition, the Poarch Band of Creek Indians will host an alcohol-free, family-friendly Pow Wow on the reservation.
“It’s kind of like the big Pow Wow on Thanksgiving,” said Planning and Events Coordinator Chris Blackburn. “All of the contests will be geared to younger kids, 18 and younger.”
Included in those contests is a Pow Wow-style dance competition. The event also includes a ball drop at midnight.
The event will be held in the gym and is open to the public. Blackburn said he expects around 200 visitors in the event’s third year.
Officials with Poarch said the youth Pow Wow began as a way to give kids, especially teenagers, an alternative to celebrating the New Year in places where tobacco, alcohol and/or drugs may be present.
