Open house day away

The Atmore Area Chamber of Commerce is offering local residents a sneak peak into their busy world Thursday with a new event, Chamber 101.

The new program is designed to educate locals on exactly what goes on at the Atmore chamber. Director Sheryl Vickery said the idea is simply to open the doors and show people exactly what the chamber is all about.

“It’s an open house/after hours event,” Vickery said. “We’re trying to bring in people who have any questions about what we do. We’re just having two hours of open house for everyone. If they have questions, we’ll have information booths talking about the different programs we have and if they want to, they can become members.”

Vickery said the event is something chamber officials have wanted to do for quite a while, adding there was no better time than the first of the year.

“We thought about doing this last year, and it’s really just a good way to start the new year,” she said. “ We’re starting the new year with open doors. We want to hear what people want us to do and answer any questions people have about what we are already doing.”

Vickery said the program will include detailed information on events such as Leadership Atmore, Business After Hours, Mayfest, Williams Station Day, Market in the Park and many more.

Along with information booths, Thursday’s open house will include food, door prizes and an appearance by Atmore’s anti-litter spokesperson, Tillie the Turtle. The program will be held Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the chamber office, located inside the Atmore YMCA building at 501 South Pensacola Avenue.

“Anybody can come,” Vickery said. “We welcome everyone. We just want to show people what we are and who we are.”
