The Escambia Academy boys’ basketball team improved to 15-3 Tuesday with a 64-43 win over Monroe Academy.
The win moves them to 3-2 in the area.
The Cougars overcame a slow start and only a 27-25 halftime lead to get the win.
“We came out and played well in the second half,” coach Kevin Woods said. “It’s like they woke up and turned on a switch.”
Woods said guard Jordan Sasser got hot and hit a couple of three-pointers early in the half and guard Josh Peebles got some steals and made some hustle plays that gave EA the momentum to increase its lead.
“Peebles got them fired up,” Woods said. “Tehron (Stallworth) did a good job getting us into our offense.”
Sasser led the team with 23 points as well as three assists, four rebounds, two blocks and two steals. Garrett Kirk scored 17 points and had six rebounds.
Blake Quimby grabbed seven boards, scored four points and added four assists. Stallworth had six points, six assists and five rebounds.
EA took on Fort Dale Academy Friday in Greenville, but results weren’t available as of press time. A win for the Cougars would result in a three-way tie for second in the area.
