Atmore police are investigating an armed robbery that occurred early Sunday morning at Kangaroo Express on West Nashville Avenue, officers said.

According to police, an unknown assailant or assailants brandishing a weapon entered the store and demanded money. After taking an unspecified amount of cash, the suspect or suspects fled the scene.

Police said a dog tracking team followed the scent to Westside Park on Wilson Avenue, where the dogs lost the scent.

The incident remains under investigation.
