All-Stars awarded scholarships

Thursday night’s 28th annual Rotary Academic All-Star banquet honored 130 local high school students who have achieved success in the classroom by handing out nearly $20,000 in scholarships.
Receiving added recognition were Northview student La’Derious Franklin and Escambia County High School student Jazmine McGinnis. Franklin received the $2,000 Randolph B. Luttrell Sr. Memorial Scholarship, while McGinnis was awarded the Mary Joyner Grissett Memorial Scholarship, also in the amount of $2,000
Franklin has a current GPA of 4.1. He is a member of the NHS Student Government Association, the National Honor Society, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, a member of the varsity sports program and is very active in his church. Franklin plans to attend Florida State University, majoring in chemical engineering.
McGinnis has a current GPA of 3.7. She is a member of the ECHS National Honor Society and Student Government Association and is a member of Youth Leadership Atmore, Chamber Ambassadors and Girls State. She plans to attend Alabama A&M and major in mechanical engineering.
