Atmore police officers have a suspect in a purse-snatching incident that led to a gunshot in a public parking lot Sunday.

According to Atmore Public Safety Director Glen Carlee, a woman shopping in the bank of stores that includes Winn Dixie and Family Dollar, located on Church Street, was approached by a man who stole her pocketbook and fled in a vehicle. Carlee said the victim’s daughter, who was in a parked car at the time of the robbery, did fire a shot at the man, but did not hit him or anyone else.

Carlee said police officers have identified a suspect, although no arrests had been made as of press time.
