A burn ban put into effect last week by Atmore Fire Chief Gerry McGhee remains active this week.

McGhee said dry weather directly contributed to the ban, which covers all of Atmore and restricts residents from any kind of outdoor burning of trash or any other material.

“We still just haven’t had enough rain to lift it,” McGhee said Tuesday, less than an hour after Atmore Fire Department responded to and extinguished a fire in a wheat field off Jack Springs Road.

McGhee said the ban is in place until further notice.
