Local teenagers interested in law enforcement are getting a first-hand look at what it takes to do the job this week as the annual Youth Police Academy, which began Monday, continues throughout the day tomorrow.

The academy, sponsored by the Escambia County Sheriff’s Department, the Brewton Police Department and Jefferson Davis Community College and co-sponsored by Atmore Police Department, Flomaton Police Department and East Brewton Police Department, is designed for children who have a genuine interest in law enforcement. It is meant to physically challenge the kids in attendance and allow them to learn more about the function of law enforcement in society.

For more on this week’s academy, see the Saturday, June 15 edition of The Atmore Advance.
