Mediacom ‘moving in direction’ of office closure

Officials with Mediacom’s home office in Iowa said this week the company is “moving in the direction” of closing their Atmore office, located in Trammell Square.

Communications Director Phyllis Peters said Tuesday a date to close the part-time payment center/customer office has not yet been set, but the decision to do so was made in order to help cut costs.

Peters said the closure “is a business decision made in the context of efforts to reduce operating costs while minimizing the impact overall to customer service.”

Peters said customers in Atmore may make payments locally through Mediacom’s arrangements with Western Union.

“This is an efficient practice in effect in many customer locations in numerous states,” she said.

Peters said the company’s hope is the decision will ultimately be positive for customers.

“We know consumers are cost-conscious and want Mediacom to hold the lid on rising expenses,” Peters said. “The largest expense category for our business is programming costs, and that is the area where we have the least ability to control costs. As a result, we are forced to find other places where operating costs can be reduced. As a business decision, the status of Mediacom’s Atmore office has been assessed for its impact on customers and employees.  As consumers have adopted new tools with online payment or other practices, more options are available to serve customers.  We will continue to monitor the use of these options to meet our commitments in serving customers.”

Peters said a closure date would be announced once available.
