Atmore City Councilman Cornell Torrence is recovering at Baptist Hospital in Pensacola this week from injuries he sustained during a recent fall at his home.

Mayor Jim Staff said he visited Torrence in the hospital Monday.

“He’s going to have a lot of therapy time ahead of him,” Staff said. “But he seems to be doing just fine.”

Although Staff said he did not know the full extent of Torrence’s condition, he said the councilman sustained a head injury and was having some back problems.

“He was checking to make sure the windows were up on his car at home and he stumbled and hit his head on the concrete,” Staff said. “He’s going to have some rehabilitation to do to get better.”

Staff said Torrence seemed to be in good spirits and was coherent and able to discuss city business with him during his visit Monday.

“His speech was clear and he responded like he normally would,” Staff said.

“I know he appreciates everyone’s thoughts and prayers,” Staff said during Monday’s City Council meeting.

Staff said he has not heard any plans for a possible discharge date.

Torrence represents Atmore’s District 2.
