An Atmore woman is facing assault charges after her vehicle ran over her alleged boyfriend,  law enforcement officials said.

Linda Shannette Knight, 30, of 144 Fennel St., claims she only meant to scare her boyfriend with her vehicle, but lost control of the 2011 Pathfinder that rolled over the victim, Mikael Cooper, 38, of the same Fennel Street address.

“The incident occurred Sunday evening around 5:30 on Henderson Lane,” Lambert said. “Dispatch received a call of a domestic disturbance and responded to the incident. When they arrived, Cooper had been run over by the vehicle and was in need of medical attention.”

Lambert said the victim was transported to Atmore Community Hospital and was later transferred to U.S.A. Medical Center in Mobile to be treated for severe injuries to his lower extremities.

Knight has been charged with first-degree domestic violence assault and remained behind bars on a $10,000 bond as of press time Tuesday.
