An Atmore man is accused of sexual assault and drug possession, following his arrest last Thursday by Atmore Police Department officers.
Darrius Javon Frye, 24, of Adams Street, is charged with rape, first degree; sodomy, first degree; and possession of marijuana, second degree. As of Tuesday afternoon, he was being held in the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton, on a $60,000 bond.
According to an APD press release, officers responded to Atmore Community Hospital on Aug. 10, in reference to a sexual-assault victim. After talking with several witnesses, officers determined that Frye had allegedly entered the residence and forcefully raped and sodomized the victim, who knew him.
According to the press release, officers located Frye last Thursday while he was driving on Harris Street. They performed a traffic stop and then placed him into custody. While conducting a pat down on Frye, the officers reportedly discovered $3,100 in cash, as well as a 1.5-gram bag of marijuana.
Frye was transported to the Atmore City Jail and then later to the Escambia County Detention Center.
