Two members of a local mixed martial arts fighting team picked up wins during an Atlas Fights event at the IP Casino and Hotel in Biloxi, Miss. on Saturday.

Atmore’s Michael Mitchell and Perdido’s Dallas Scruggs both won fights, while Brewton’s Stephen Matthews lost, said coach Jim Jernigan. Justin Ramer didn’t fight due to an injury to his opponent, Adam Hall.

Mitchell, who is now 2-0, made quick work of his opponent, Jernigan said. Mitchell was awarded a knockout due to strikes in 1:12.

Dallas Scruggs, 7-0-1, avenged his only draw by taking down Chris Velasco, Jernigan said. Matthews was defeated in the second round of his fight.

“Overall it was a good night,” Jernigan said. “Everybody got home safely and avoided injury.”

Jernigan said the team is working toward an event next month and will also fight in April in an event co-sponsored by Atlas Fights and Warriors Promotions. He said the next event in Atmore would take place after that.
