Gertrude Childress

Gertrude Childress, 88, of Monroeville, passed away Tuesday Dec. 3, 2013, in Monroeville.
She was a retired seamstress with Vanity Fair Mills, born in Atmore on Dec. 27, 1924, to the late Henry Watterson and Ruby Bell Stanley. Mrs. Childress was a member of the First Baptist Church of Atmore.
Her husband, Rhodie Childress, preceded her in death.
Survivors are one son, Ralph Stan (Gloria) Childress of Tiger, Ga.; two daughters, Cynthia (David) Huggins of Lake Village, Ark. and Rhonda (Keith) Cox of Little River; four brothers, Leonard (Katherine) Stanley of Atmore, Cecil (Dobie) Stanley of Atmore, Windom (Mildred) Stanley of Daphne and Aubrey (Mary Margaret) Stanley of Atmore; 11 grandchildren, Hedi Greene, Ryan Childress, Bryan Childress, Tiffany Davis, Stephen Childress, Michael Huggins, Jason Huggins, Suzanne White, Allison Cox, Kevin Houston and Scott Houston; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Arnold Hendrix officiating. Interment followed in Oak Hill Cemetery. The family received friends from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. Friday at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers were Ryan Childress, David Huggins, Keith Cox, Bud Cox, Bruce White, Michael Huggins and Justin Kendrick. Honorary pallbearers were her brothers.
Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home, Inc., was entrusted with all arrangements.
