The city of Atmore has scheduled a special free recycling day for many electronic items.

The day will be Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m., at the Atmore Recycling Center across from Atmore City Hall. The Atmore City Council first discussed the special recycling day at its Monday, Dec. 9, meeting.

There will be no charge to recycle most small electronic items, including computers, cell phones, copiers, VCRs, radios, laptops, telephones and systems, scanners, DVDs, surge protectors, keyboards, fax machines, printers, stereos, cords and cables.

There will still be a charge to recycle some larger items. All monitors, including LCD, flat panel, CRT and iMac computers, will be $10. Basic televisions, up to 65 pounds, will be $20. For every TV that weighs more than 65 pounds, there will be an additional charge of $0.25 per pound. This includes console and large-screen televisions.

As always, the recycling center will also take other recyclables, including paper, cardboard, plastic and live Christmas trees.
