A single-vehicle crash Saturday, Jan. 18, claimed the life of a Stapleton man.

William Jerkins, 26, was killed when the vehicle he was driving left the roadway and struck a tree, according to Trooper Kevin Cook, public information officer with the Alabama State Patrol. The crash occurred at 10:05 p.m. on Baldwin County 47, one-tenth of a mile north of Interstate 65.

A passenger in the vehicle was injured and transported by helicopter to USA Medical Center.

Nothing further is available as Alabama State Troopers continue to investigate.
