Atmore Fire Chief Gerry McGhee was taken to Atmore Community Hospital on Thursday after suffering dizzy spells and exhaustion during the day, Atmore Mayor Jim Staff said.

Staff said it is not believed that McGhee’s condition is serious and he was likely exhausted from working long hours during the recent snowstorm.

Staff said McGhee was scheduled to have additional tests done for his heart Friday. He noted that McGhee was not at a fire or other emergency when he started feeling queasy.

“We were walking down the alleyway when the dizziness suddenly hit him,” Staff said. “I think he’ll be fine, but we’ll know more after the tests tomorrow.”
