An Atmore church will celebrate the life of one of the great civil rights leaders this Saturday.
Greater Mt. Triumph Missionary Baptist Church, on Carver Avenue, will hold its Rosa Parks celebration Saturday, Feb. 8. Breakfast will be at 9 a.m., followed by speakers and awards.
The keynote speaker is Dr. Ullysses McBride, the former president of Reid State Technical College and a well-known community leader. Breakfast is free.
The event is designed to coincide with Parks’ birthday. She was born Feb. 4, 1913, and died Oct. 24, 2005. Parks is famous for sparking the start of the Montgomery bus boycott, after she was arrested on Dec. 1, 1955, when she refused to stand up and give her bus seat to a white passenger.
