Kenny Smith, wastewater superintendent for West Escambia Utilities, said Saturday morning that recent heavy rainwater has resulted in the discharge of raw sewage.

The discharge has taken place in the area around the manhole at Wilson Avenue and Ridgley Street.

Residents are encouraged to avoid contact with spilled sewage, Smith said.
