The 2014 American Cancer Society Relay For Life will be held in Atmore on Friday, April 25, at Tom Byrne Park.
Opening ceremonies will begin at 6 p.m., and the event will continue through midnight. All participants will be able to join in the luminaria ceremony, which is designed to remember those who have been affected by cancer.
Candles will be lit in honor of those who are cancer patients — both those who lost their battle and those who are still fighting. These candles will be placed around the perimeter of the track and seen by those who are participating in the relay.
On Monday, First National Bank & Trust’s team hosted a “Celebrity Server Dinner” as a way to help raise funds for Friday’s Relay. The dinner was held at David’s Catfish House, as famous people from the community donated their time to serve as waiters, with tips going to help the American Cancer Society.
The waiters also decorated their tables, and prizes were awarded to the top themes. Nancy Williams and Haley Huskey took first place, Bub Gideons earned second place, and Chris Singleton took third place.
The celebrity servers were Zickeyous Byrd, Elliott Faircloth, Laura Nisewonger, Bub Gideons, Mayor Jim Staff, Glen Davis, Nancy Williams, Haley Huskey, Christopher and Leigh Ann Rowland, Natalie Rodgers, Chris Singleton, Shane Hadley, John Brantley and Brandon Smith.
