David Adams, director of the Escambia County Emergency Management Agency, has issued a statement concerning possible severe weather tonight and Tuesday.
“A strong low pressure system is approaching our area from the west,” Adams said. “Southerly winds should increase through this afternoon and evening. Frequent gusts between 25 and 35 mph are possible.
“Later this evening, the risk of severe weather will begin to increase. The greatest threat for tonight is to the north and west of Escambia County, although severe thunderstorms are possible in the county.
“The risk of severe weather will increase in our area through the day on Tuesday. Severe thunderstorms, locally heavy rainfall, hail and isolated tornadoes may be possible. High winds are possible in the thunderstorms.
“Storm total rainfall of 2 to 5 inches is expected. Given the recent rainfall totals in the area, this rainfall may create some flash flooding, as well as some creek and river flooding.”
