Ada Evyonne Strickland Stokes

Ada Eyvonne Strickland Stokes, 80, of Atmore, passed away Saturday, April 26, 2014, at her residence.

She was retired from Vanity Fair Mills as a machine operator, born in Marengo County to the late Alex and Erma L. Strickland Jr., on Dec. 15, 1933.

Her husband, George Houston Stokes; children, Barbara Ann Burgett and Kirby Vance Burgett; and a sister, Mary Etheredge, preceded her in death.

Survivors are two sons, Joseph M. Burgett and Randy C. Burgett; two stepsons, Houston Johnny Stokes and George M. Dodd; one daughter, Myra L. Purvis; three stepdaughters, Joyce Morrell, Rhonda Pau, and Donna Bruks; one brother, David O. Strickland; five sisters, Vhelma Phillips, Nell Pugh, Shirley Stokley, Beatrice Baggett and Alice Craven; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Services were held at 3 p.m. Monday, April 28, from Presley Street Baptist Church, with the Rev. Mike Grindle officiating. Interment followed in Oak Hill Cemetery.

The family received friends from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. Monday, April 28, at Presley Street Baptist Church.

Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home, Inc., was in charge of all arrangements.
