An Atmore woman was injured Friday morning, but still conscious, after her vehicle went through a fence and into a ditch at Atmore Garden Apartments, on East Laurel Street.

Dorothy Brown, 79, of Atmore, said at the scene that she had been in the ditch for a while. She started honking the horn and nobody heard her, and then turned her radio up as loudly as she could, but again nobody could hear her. She was finally able to press her Life Alert button and alert first responders.

Witnesses on scene said Brown was a resident of Atmore Garden Apartments.

According to an Atmore Police Department report, Brown told officers that she was trying to stop her 2002 Toyota Echo after parking it, but mistakenly pressed the gas pedal instead of the brake.

First responders arrived on the scene at about 8:30 a.m., and the woman was taken by ambulance to Atmore Community Hospital.

According to the APD report, Brown was complaining of knee pain and neck pain. She was later released from the hospital.
