The Martin Luther King Little League will have its opening day Saturday, May 10, at Houston Avery Park.
The league’s opening ceremony will be at 11:30 a.m. At noon, MLK Little League officers, players, coaches, managers and volunteers, along with everyone attending, will celebrate Little League’s 75th anniversary with a march around the walking trail. This march will honor the league’s founder, Carl Stotz, who started the league in 1939 with three teams, each with 10 players.
Starting at 1 p.m., there will be food, fun and fellowship, including special Little League 75th anniversary hamburgers and hot dogs, chips, drinks, snow cones and more. There will also be games, including face painting, a water balloon relay, horseshoes, a parents vs. players sack race and a Hula Hoop contest.
