William Charles Lowrey

William Charles Lowrey, 93, of Atmore, passed away Saturday May 17, 2014, at his residence.

He was owner and operator of Lowrey’s Drive-In, born in Canoe on July 12, 1920, to the late Robert L. and Virgie Lowrey.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Atmore and served for over 50 years as the church treasurer. He served in World War II in the U.S. Army, serving in General Patton’s U.S. Army Tank Corp. and the Army in Europe. He was an avid fisherman.

Survivors are his wife, Kathryn Esneul Lowrey of Atmore; one son, William Hugo (Kathy) Lowrey of Albuquerque, N.M.; one daughter, Kathryn Lynn (Scott) Vinson of Pensacola, Fla.; and one sister, Peggy Byrd of Richland, Texas.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday May 21, from the First Baptist Church of Atmore, with the Rev. Arnold Hendrix officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. service time at the First Baptist Church of Atmore.

Active pallbearers will be Marvin Risher, Jack Ward, Floyd Adams, Roger Owens, Billy Branun, and Robert Earl Brantley. Honorary pallbearers will be Haskew Middleton, John Shiver, Dale Cooper and Giles Chapmen.

Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home, Inc., is in charge of all arrangements.
