Hattie Mallory King Maxwell

Hattie Mallory King Maxwell, 86, passed away on Monday, Aug. 4, 2014, in Foley.

She was born in Okolona, Miss., and was a long-time resident of Atmore.

Those who preceded her in death include her parents, John Dowd King and Leslie Bridges King, and one sister, Mary Dowd King Riesterer.

Mrs. Maxwell is survived by her husband of nearly 64 years, Robert Hamilton Maxwell; two sons, Richard King Maxwell (Bess) and Dr. David Hamilton Maxwell (Jeanne); six grandchildren, Mallory King Maxwell Downey (Brad), Richard Chapman Maxwell (Katie), Regina Dowd Maxwell Allen (Carl), Amanda Bridges Maxwell, Robert Hamilton Maxwell II, Kathrine Street Maxwell; four great-grandchildren, Leslie Austin Downey, Harrison Maxwell Downey, Richard Warner Maxwell and Douglas Hamilton Maxwell; and one niece, Leslie Riesterer Campbell.

Mrs. Maxwell attended Mississippi State College for Women before earning her degree in business from the University of Alabama, where she was a member of Chi Omega sorority. After her marriage to Robert on Aug. 18, 1950, in Tuscaloosa, they lived in Mobile before moving to Atmore in 1953, where she helped
re-establish the local Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Atmore, member of the DAR, and member of the Atmore Historical Society, where she remained active until her death.

Funeral services will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Atmore at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 7, with the Rev. Jim Thorpe officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery in Atmore.

The family will receive friends Thursday, Aug. 7, at 1:30 p.m. until 3 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Atmore.
