A student at Escambia County High School was arrested Monday morning, after he brought a weapon to school.
John Knott, superintendent of the Escambia County Schools, said that administrators immediately notified law enforcement officials. Deputies with the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office arrested the student, without incident.
Although Knott declined to name the student’s grade or the type of weapon, he did confirm that the student was a male.
“The student was taken out of the classroom and placed under arrest,” he said. “Law enforcement and administrators worked together to be sure that safety was given the utmost importance.”
Knott said that school officials do not believe that any other students were involved.
He said that extra support staff came to ECHS on Monday, but the students were “calm” throughout the day.
“Law enforcement is still conducting the investigation and making sure that they can get all the details, with the assistance of school administrators,” Knott said.
No other information can be released at this time, Knott said, because the investigation is ongoing.
