The Northview High School Chiefs bounced back in a big way Friday, defeating Jay 53-20 to win their homecoming game in Bratt.
Northview (4-1, 1-0 in Class 1A, District 1) lost 42-7 to Class 6A Choctaw on Friday, Sept. 26, but had little trouble Friday against the Class 1A Royals. Because there are only four teams in the district, every game is key for playoff position.
Northview running back Keondrae Lett had a big night to lead the Chiefs to victory, finishing with 300 rushing yards and four touchdowns.
The Chiefs took an early lead, when Cameron Newsome scored on a 21-yard run with 6:34 left in the first quarter. Chasen Freeman added the extra point.
Jay tied the game at 7-7 late in the first quarter, but Northview blew the game open with four touchdowns in the second quarter.
Tydre Bradley scored on a 7-yard run with 10:10 left in the second, and Lett followed with an 80-yard touchdown run with 6:16 remaining. Newsome added a 23-yard run with 3:43 left in the quarter, and Lett caught a 23-yard touchdown pass from Gavin Grant with 37 seconds remaining before halftime. The extra point was blocked after Lett’s reception, giving Northview a 34-7 lead at the half.
The Chiefs added a touchdown in the third quarter, when Lett broke away for a 60-yard run with 2:28 left. Northview attempted a two-point conversion, but failed, putting the score at 40-7.
Northview scored two more times in the fourth quarter, on a 72-yard run by Lett and a 24-yard run by Kadarius Johnson.
The Chiefs are off this Friday, and will return to action Friday, Oct. 17, when they travel to face Freeport.
