The blast of a cannon and the release of dozens of pink balloons were some of the sounds and sights that filled downtown Atmore on Saturday, as huge crowds came out to enjoy the 23rd annual Williams Station Day.

The cannon signified the start of the Williams Station Day 5K run, and the balloon release came at the end of the opening ceremony, symbolizing those who have battled cancer or have lost their battle with the disease.

At 11:30 a.m., headline performers “The Alabama Blues Women” hit the stage to play. Other bluegrass groups and local talented musicians also added their unique sounds to the kaleidoscope of activity in Atmore.
