Atmore police are currently investigating a theft and arson that took place Thursday evening at the We Care Economy Shop in downtown Atmore.

Inv. Chuck Brooks of the Atmore Police Department said that a 911 call was received at 7:50 p.m., stating that there was a fire at the building, located at 100 S. Main St.

“We were able to determine that the donation drop box had been set on fire,” he said. “There was no other damage to the building.”

Surveillance video showed three males and one female removing items from the drop box, and also showed two of the males setting the remaining clothing on fire before leaving.

Brooks said that the APD has already received several leads in the case, and is currently investigating them.
