Hoomes sworn in at BOE meeting

The Escambia County School’s Board of Education met Thursday in Brewton and welcomed new member Kevin Hoomes to the board.
Hoomes, who was joined by his wife and children, was sworn in by Judge Dave Jordan. Also, board member and chairman Willie J. Grissett was sworn in for his new term.
The board elected current board president and chairman Grissett as chairman for the next year and also selected Cindy Jackson as the vice chairman.
In other business, the board:
• approved the Escambia County Library Media Handbook;
• approved the board policy Tab 900 No. 974 Sex Offender on School Property
• approved personnel actions, including,
Resignation:
• Kimberly Owens, temporary/part-time intervention/tutor, Flomaton Elementary School, effective Oct. 28, 2014.
Retirement:
• Cynthia Rodgers, CNP director, Atmore Central Office, effective July 1, 2015
Employment:
• Eva Wilson, elementary teacher, Rachel Patterson Elementary School, effective Dec. 1, 2014 (Replacing Susan Hartley);
• Floyd Seale, bus driver, Atmore bus shop, effective Dec. 1, 2014 (Replacing Jerry Blackburn);
• Toni White, bus driver, Atmore bus shop, effective Dec. 1, 2014 (Replacing Lacy Pace);
• Kary Lassiter, community educator, 21st Century Community Learning Center after-school program, effective Oct. 6, 2014.
Employment change:
• Jason Petro, secondary curriculum supervisor, Atmore Central Office, to federal programs/assessment supervisor, Atmore Central Office, effective Dec. 1, 2014 (Replacing Beth Drew).
Personnel addendum — Retirement:
• Elizabeth Ann Nelson, 6-hour lunchroom worker, W.S. Neal Elementary School, effective Jan. 1, 2014;
Employment:
• Kasey Atkins, bus aide, Atmore bus shop, effective Dec. 8, 2014 (Replacing Donna Boutwell);
• Karen Coker, special education teacher aide, Huxford Elementary School, effective Dec. 1, 2014 (Replacing Betty Chaloux);
• 21st Century Community Learning Center Program — Huxford Elementary School Site Coordinators: Brian Stallworth and Rachel Hadley.
The next meeting was set for Thurs., Dec. 18, at 4:30 p.m. at the board office in Brewton.
