2 sought in assault, burglary

The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office is looking for two suspects involved in an assault and burglary Thursday night, according to an ECSO press release.

According to the release, the ECSO received a call from a residence on Robinsonville Road on Thursday at approximately 10:30 p.m. The caller told the ECSO that there was an unknown black Nissan four-door car in the residence’s driveway when he arrived home.

The caller reportedly attempted to call 911, but was pulled from the vehicle by the two suspects, and then struck in the face by an object.

Chief Deputy Mike Lambert, with the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, identified the victim as Melvin Byrd, a bus driver with the Escambia County Schools.

The two suspects are described as black men approximately 6 feet tall and weighing 250 pounds. They reportedly left the scene in the black Nissan.
Upon further investigation, it was discovered that Byrd’s home had been burglarized. Lambert said that the burglars stole a laptop and television set.
