There will soon be a newly posted speed limit on Canoe Road North.

Commissioners agreed Monday to begin the process of declaring a new speed limit on the road, which is located in District 4.

Commissioner Brandon Smith said residents have asked for a limit to be imposed after the roadway was resurfaced as part of the ATRIP program.

“Our first step is to have (County Engineer) Bill (Bridges) do a survey of the road to determine the appropriate speed,” County Administrator Tony Sanks said. “In fact, there may need to be more than one limit posted, as there is also a school in the area.”
Currently, the limit is 45 mph. The process should be completed in the coming weeks.

Commissioners also agreed to vacate Verbies Road, which is located in District 2. There are no homes located on the dirt road, and adjoining landowners have requested that the road be vacated. Anyone with opposition should contact Commissioner Raymond Wiggins at (251) 809-1131.

In other business, the commission re-appointed David Stokes and Raymond Wiggins as chairman and vice-chairman, respectively.
