The funeral service for Barbara Gwynelle Arnold, 82, of Alexander City, and formerly of Huntsville, was Monday, Dec. 22, 2014, at 3 p.m. at the Chapel of Radney Funeral Home.
Dr. Todd Henderson and Rev. Blue Vardaman officiated. Burial was in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Atmore, on Tuesday, Dec. 23, at 1 p.m.
The family received friends on Monday, Dec. 22, from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Radney Funeral Home.
Mrs. Arnold passed away on Saturday, Dec. 20, at her residence. She was born on Feb. 19, 1932, in Dothan, to Alexander Monroe Smith and Mary Lillian Purvis Smith. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Wednesday Bible Study Group.
Mrs. Arnold attended school in Atmore and graduated in 1950. She later went to college in 1970 and got her Nursing degree from Calhoun Community College. She worked as an Emergency Room Nurse at Huntsville Hospital.
Mrs. Arnold loved the beach and enjoyed square dancing, music, and playing the piano. She also loved sharing her passion for music with her family and was known for her wonderful sense of humor and her love, support, and devotion to her family.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, William Henry Arnold Jr. of Alexander City; daughters, Betty Vardaman (Blue) of Alexander City and Gwen Alexander (Kelly) of Huntsville; son, Doug Arnold (Jeannie) of Alexander City; 11 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
