Horse’s body found in county

County Commissioner Brandon Smith and sheriff’s deputies are looking for the person responsible for dumping a dead horse near a private landowner’s property Friday afternoon.

Smith said that the landowner called him Friday afternoon, to let Smith know that somebody had left a dead horse in a ditch on the right-of-way in front of his home. The horse had been dumped on Ewing Farm Road, off Lottie Road and north of Interstate 65.

“The horse still had shoes and a bridle on it,” Smith said. “They just left it out there. It’s a very sad situation.”

Smith said that county employees were able to bury the animal on Saturday, and he appreciated that the landowner permitted for the horse to be buried on his land.

“This person who left the horse there caused us a lot of frustration and time to take care of the situation, and I’m hoping maybe somebody out there knows who it was,” Smith said.

Anyone who has any information about the horse can call Smith at (251) 359-4493, or the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office at (251) 809-2154.
