On Thursday, Feb. 12, the Escambia County High School gymnasium will be officially renamed in honor of longtime coach and current Atmore city council member Cornell Torrence.

The re-naming ceremony will take place at 4 p.m. at the new ECHS gymnasium.

Torrence taught and coached basketball and football at Escambia County Training School for 14 years, and at ECHS for 25 years.

The Escambia County Board of Education originally approved the renaming in a resolution passed at the school board’s Jan. 23, 2014, meeting.
