The Escambia County Commission closed one road and designated a speed limit for another during Monday’s meeting.
While two local residents spoke out on the closure of Verbies Road, no opposition was heard in the morning’s public hearing.
Adjoining property owners Kevin Kelley and Frank Naulty — as well as Commissioner Raymond Wiggins — agreed the area was used as an illegal dump site.
“Hopefully, by closing this road, we won’t have to deal with that anymore,” Wiggins said.
Commissioners also agreed to post a 25 mile-per-hour speed limit on a three-tenths of a mile section of Canoe Road near U.S. Highway 31 and the caution light.
In other business, the commission approved a $64,176 computer system upgrade for the courthouse.
